health update

God is so good – I spoke w/the Gastroenterology doctor’s nurse on the phone yesterday for an update on my medical status.  I told her I felt I was getting stronger every day – she was pleased to hear of my progress, so we are on the same schedule as before.

The Plan: to  take the meds as prescribed until the 9 wks are over – then in September, I have a follow-up app’t to determine if the colitis is gone/subsided (I’m praying for it to be gone–GONE!) If gone, I shouldn’t have to continue w/maintenance medication which would be excellent.  Thank you all for your concern & prayers – they are worth their weight in gold!

Result: just keep doing what I’m doing in order not to upset the applecart!

discouraged?

“I have had enough, LORD,” he said…Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep.” (1 Kings 19:4b, 5a)

[God] provided a prescription for discouragement. He didn’t scold. Instead, because the Lord doesn’t confuse physical weariness with spiritual weakness, he let Elijah sleep. [Then Elijah] was ready to receive some much-needed insight. – Gigi Graham Tchividjian

Finish, at last!

11:30 pm         FINISH Michigan Time, but Swiftsure waited around in bay for a spot to deliver their ‘touch and go’ paper. It was at least an hour later for that process.

All three of our group—Steve, Henry and son, Nate (and rest of crew) arrived safe—pumped, but tired, scruffy and glad to be across the finish line.  And we are thankful!

9:00 pm update

9:00 pm           Steve called and they have 14 knots of wind and sailing 9 knots!  They have an hour to the bridge and another hour to the finish mark. So….they should be in around 11 pm.  PTL!!

5:30 pm-Monday, July 26

5:30 pm           Steve called and seemed in good spirits in spite of their location near Grays Reef sailing at about 6 knots with only 37 miles to go. Considering they spent 8 hours going 1 knot or less, 6 knots was outstanding!  He was ecstatic they were moving. He estimates around 3:00 am, but I’m praying for coming in before midnight tonight.

2:30 pm-Monday, July 26

Swiftsure nearing Petoskey area running at 2.2 with 42 miles to go.

Mary and I are now on the Island and enjoying our comfy room–ready to go get something to eat & check out the town.

Monday Morning on the Island

From Torresen:

0430 Race Time, Monday, July 26th.

The water at the Straits of Mackinaw is glass. There is an occasional dark spot indicating a touch of breeze, but they are few and far between.  This is evidenced by the Turbo Runaway being perched near the finish line and currently moving at under one knot.  As many experienced Mac racers say, there is a parking lot that can appear between the bridge and the finish line. It is there right now.

Beau Geste & Windquest finished over the night at 21:43 & 22:19 respectively.  Beau Geste received line honors, now it is just a waiting game. Runaway is in limbo, nearly caught up to the big boats, but with the rest of the Turbo pack closing in on her heels. Equation and Natalie J have passed under the bridge with Vincitore not far behind.

7:30 am – Monday, July 26

Swiftsure has 68 nautical miles to go – sailing along at 5.0!  May the winds pick up and you sail toward your goal with grace!

We’ll be eagerly waiting for you on the Island, boys.

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
