Are you troubled?
Don’t be sorry about your tears. A devotional by Anne Cetas in Our Daily Bread reminds us that our emotions are God-given. Emotions are a “characteristic of our having been made in God’s image (Gen. 1:27). We shouldn’t be ashamed or apologize for crying. God grieves. Look with me in:
- Gen. 6:6-7 God was sorrowful and angry about His people’s sin and the separation it caused between Him and His people.
- John 11:28-44 finds Jesus (God in the flesh) joining his Mary and Martha in grief in the loss of their brother, Lazarus
- John 11:35 – “Jesus wept.”
So, it’s okay to weep. It’s okay to lean on others to shoulder our burden. We are only human. In weeping, we show others we are human, and that we trust God to do what is right.
