The Potter’s wheel

“Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand”—Isaiah 64:8.

The Prophet Isaiah writes about the Potter and the clay. This verse reminds me that the Potter is the one in charge of my destiny. God created us in the beginning; therefore it makes sense that He’s the driver in my life.

But do I always seek His wisdom during decision making times? When the outcome turns out favorable, do I give God the credit and glory? Or, do I pat myself on the back and think what a good job I did?

Often, God works behind the scenes similar to stage hands who set up for a play or concert. Countless hours go into designing and building stage props, costumes, script writing, character building, and sound system. Without the proper implementation of their talents and skills, the play/movie wouldn’t happen. Those who sit in the audience only see the finished product—flawlessly performed.

Just like participating in your favorite play or movie, let’s remember to give God the credit for His protection and guidance in our daily lives.

  • When was the last time you felt prompted by the Holy Spirit to do/say something?
  • Did you say “Yes” to the Potter?
  • What was the outcome of your response?

Dear God,

Thank you for being in charge of my life. Oftentimes when I take the wheel, I tend to move too quickly or in the wrong direction. Help me to remember that You created my body and it is good regardless of certain aspects I’d like to change. I choose to be thankful for life and the ability to praise You forever.

Psalm 115 Muse

“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice” – (He listened to me! No one else on planet earth always has the time or even the inclination to listen to me all the time).

“Because he turned his ear to me (He listened so intently), I will call on him as long as I live” – vs. 1, 2

“The Lord is gracious & righteous; (it is he who makes things right — not one person, not an acceptance/rejection slip) our God is full of compassion” – vs. 5.

“The Lord protects the simple-hearted; when I was in great need, he saved me” (when I find no time to finish my tasks and words don’t come) I cry out to God who hears my plea. In my own strength, I am truly helpless.

“Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you” – vs. 7… (showered me with blessings and dealt bountifully with me.)

“Here I am, your servant, your faithful servant: set me free for your service!” – vs. 16.

Thank you, God, for giving me life, breath, and stories to pen and share with others. Even if only one person reads my story and responds, I know I must tell the story.

He never sleeps

“On my bed, I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me” (Psalm 63:6–8).

Do you have trouble sleeping at night? I often do. For some reason, my brain rehearses what took place during the day. And if that’s not enough, I continue to think about what needs to be done tomorrow. I ponder about the words I should have said; some I should not have said. Even if my body lies in a horizontal position, my mind doesn’t always assume an “at rest” mode.

Some may count sheep. I try to concentrate on counting my blessings and name them one by one. Remembering God, his influence and help throughout the day, helps me fall into pleasant slumber.

Blessings may be minor like finding an empty parking space at the doctor’s office. Protection may come in major ways such as saving a life after a motorcycle crash or during a storm on the lake.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for keeping me in the shadow of your wings. I clearly have reason to rejoice and sing your praises day and night!

Ask:  Can you think of a recent experience where you were saved from harm or humiliation? Are you willing to acknowledge the Source of this protection?

Safe from Destruction

It’s a wet and blustery day out today – perfect day to snuggle inside and work on my editing and to read! A day like today I’m not so inclined to want to be outdoors, so it’s easier to keep my nose and eyes pointed on my papers and computer screen.

“He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber.” (Psalm 121:3)

The adversary of your life has no power to trap you…as long as you stay hidden in the shelter of God’s wings where you are safe from emotional destruction, hidden from emotional ruin. – June Hunt
