There’s No Place Like Home

Spring sprung while we were away.                       Red Dogwood at Home
Jonquils pop tiny yellow & white heads.
Trillium burst forth in uniform whites.
Purplish buds appear from Red Bud tree.
Pink-red colored Dogwood blossoms
Surge out alive and well.

To think I would have missed
This grand display
Had I not traveled this way!
Iris whites shoot forth.
Leafy rose leaves waking up.
Assorted green tree buds say hello.
Grass blades stand tall & proud.

I’m so thankful for this chance     Trillum at Home
To re-acquaint myself with
My blessings I oft
Forget amidst day-to-day routine.

All shout Happy Spring
Glad you are here now!

Spring Release!

This brain tumor survivor is announcing that my book is now in the Design/Production phase. Looking forward to a Spring Release. I’ll be sharing glimpses of my personal journal entries interwoven in this frightening health crisis. You will learn of the need to regain control over three areas of life: mind, body, and soul. Then, and only then, can we experience joy and peace while learning to be still.           Green shoots - signs of Spring (Copy)

I will keep you posted regarding progress. Thanking God and all my angel-helpers along the way who contribute to make this dream a reality. Totally excited to have you follow and come along with me in the birth of a new “baby!”

Roof Robins

On my morning walk, I noticed several robins atop one of the roofs in our neighborhood. They chattered happily sounding glad to be alive. The spotting of robins reminded me of when we all eagerly waited for the first sign of a robin after a long and snowy winter. Most of us were more than ready for spring to arrive. Now that the first day of summer is here, we forget about when we longed for signs of warmer weather. I wonder how many other sightings were missed while looking forward to spring.     Robin

Traditions and rituals are commonplace in most families. We are creatures of habit. A major holiday is coming up. For quite a few years now, we’ve invited family and friends over for a cookout, boat ride, and watching fireworks over the lake. Except for this year. Our boat remains in the shop for repair. We all ask, what will we do? We ALWAYS get together, and now we can’t?

I’ll be the first to admit that I take comfort in the usual way of doing things. It’s much easier to plan ahead when the routine is predictable. This time we’ll step out of the normal, comfort zone and try something different. Being flexible is a good thing. Steve and I (Grandpa & Nana) plan to travel to Madison for a Goldwing event then on to Minnesota to visit the kids and grandkids. They are excited to see us and, of course, we’re just as excited to see them too!

My goal is not to linger on what normally happens during this time of year, but focus on the current season of new memories. I am ready for whatever comes our way. Bring it on!

Green shoots

Before my head rises
I hear melodic tunes
Sounds of mourning doves
Looking for morsels of food
Under the bird feeders       Green shoots - signs of Spring (Copy)

I rise willingly
At last, maybe Spring is here

Green shoots poke
Tiny heads above wet ground
Reaching upward
Strong and true
Bravely tolerating icy chill

I rise willingly
Praying Spring is in the air

Spring: it’s just around the corner now!

Finches display yellow once again
Spring is close at hand
Winter passes
Have no fear
Hang on

Put winter garb away
Sun shines radiantly
Vibrant color palettes replace
Dismal gray

Our God truly reigns!

Rejoice!

Daffodils

Daffodils

“The world seems sad mid winter’s gloom.

But all’s well when the jonquils bloom.”

This is so true. Winter (at least in the mid-west) can last forever. My spirits sag dramatically when the sun doesn’t shine for days. As soon as I glimpse the first crocus or yellow daffodil, hope springs forth!

Jonquil stands for the word “desire.” Desire for new beginnings, fresh starts, and warm temperatures reign paramount. Whether it be a do-over with a sour relationship or a jump start to a neglected project such as organizing my office space — nothing is impossible if taken one baby step at a time.

Dear God, thank you for creating seasons, newly budded plants and trees. They remind me that you never give up on your children and continue to love unconditionally. Thank you for the many blessings, both seen and unseen, that you’ve given me, my family and friends.

Are you feeling blue and downcast today? You are not alone. Can you focus on one positive thing that happened in the last 24 hours and thank God for this?

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4)

New life

The lettuce has sprung–with just a bit of care, look what came forth!  And to think these succulent sprouts started out as tiny seeds a few weeks ago.

Steve and I tasted our first salad of the season made with this leafy variety.  I don’t think it was my imagination, but that salad was the BEST I’d sampled in a long time.

Oh, do I love Spring and the harvest it brings!  What are you sampling in your garden this week?

2nd day of Spring

Can you believe it?  It’s the 2nd day of Spring…robins chirp happily, my bird feeder remains a popular feeding spot for finches, and our resident blue heron just landed in our pond!

We also experienced heavy rain, sleet, snow, hail, thunder and lightning in the past 24 hours! Spring is just around the corner….really.
