Quote from “Three Cups of Tea”
The author, Greg Mortenson, describes a hospitable Balti woman: “Mortenson thought that Sakina had perhaps the kindest face he’d ever seen. It was wrinkled in a way that suggested smile lines had set up camp at the corners of her mouth and eyes, then marched toward each other until they completed their conquest.” [quote taken from Three Cups of Tea – One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace…One School at a Time, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin]
At first when I read the description used to describe Sakina, I was unimpressed and felt he was a touch unkind. It wasn’t until I re-read the line prior to his succinct facial description that I, too, smiled. I wouldn’t mind someone describing me in a similar manner. Having the kindest face anyone had ever seen would be a compliment most high in my estimation. I could put up with a few wrinkles in that case!
