Happy July to one and all! Oh my! This is the first day of the month of July! Already, where did the time go?
My Grandma used to say, “The time just seemed to fly by!”
Now that I’m old (or mature), some days go fast and others seem to drag on. Ever feel that way? Also, sometimes life gets lonely. Yes, even when you are old or mature. I like the word mature better than old. Have you ever been told you are mature? I looked up the word mature.
Here’s a good definition: it means fully grown, acting in a sensible, thoughtful, and responsible way, typical of an adult. All sounds good, right?
Part of me wants to do stuff with my friends and family, and the other part hesitates and wants to enjoy a chill day. Time to do nothing or something I want to do. Maybe something I’ve been putting off, or just read, or free write. I feel that’s perfectly okay.
In chapter 4 of “Frog’s Boating Adventures,” Leaving the Known for the Unknown, Frog tries to be brave and mature. Except emotions get in the way, like they often to. Frog thought and talked about who would be missed and the future might look like while leaving the dock for their long journey. Listen in:
A knot formed in my tummy. I would be brave. Everyone seemed so happy about our adventure. We were truly leaving at last—leaving everything familiar behind and taking only essential items.
Who would I miss most? What would I miss most?
“See you later, alligator!” I called out, trying to still be brave.
Many people called back from the decks of other boats harbored at the marina. “After a while, crocodile!”
Everything looked smaller and smaller. I tried to memorize this view. I couldn’t see my favorite picnic table under the shade tree. Patches of green grass disappeared as water took over our view. Lots of people stood along the channel waving as we motored out. My tummy felt weak and a bit queasy. I took several deep breaths and whispered, Fully Rely on God. I can do this. God and I can do this!
Each lap of water against the side of Sanctuary meant we were a little bit farther from what I was familiar with. This begins our journey toward what I know nothing about or have ever seen before.
“I wish I could bring everyone along with me. What if BJ doesn’t remember me when we meet again?” I whispered to myself.
Anyone you miss today? It’s normal to miss those we love. The reason may be due to geographical miles between you & your loved ones. Maybe you’re dealing with a daunting health diagnosis or a death. Today, many in my circle experience great and grievous heartaches.
Or they went their way and you went your way, and your visits become longer apart. Sadness and tears come easily, whatever the reason for you being away from your loved ones.
“Crying does not indicate that you are weak. Since birth, it has always been a sign that you are alive,” Charlotte Brontë.
Charlotte was an English novelist who wrote about Jane Eyre (1847). Jane, an independent young governess who overcomes hardships while still remaining true to her principles.
If you are grieving today, I am truly sorry you’re on this path. Frog and Nana share a moment in my book,
“You are special and loved. We’re so glad you’re part of our family. It feels right that you come along with us on this boating adventure. We bring comfort and encouragement to each other.”
“Guess that means I need to rely on God for this trip too. I can do this! We can do this! Us plus God can do this!”
Nana put her arm around my shoulder. “True story! And remember, whenever you want to talk, I’m here for you.”
See ya later alligator–after a while, crocodile! blessings from Frog and Nana.
