My husband purchased tickets to a concert in tribute to a well-known and loved musician we’d grown up listening to. Sadly he passed nearly three years ago, but it felt as though he was there with us in the crowd.
My husband, daughter, and I arrived early for a concert at a new outdoor amphitheater in our city. After finding our seats, next we went in search for gluten free food options. I’d read online about a few options, but until I talked to a real person knowing the cooking methods, I wouldn’t trust the information. After doing the in-person research, we purchased a delightful pulled pork sandwich (no bread) and homemade crisp chips.
For those of you unfamiliar with gut issues, asking numerous questions is not an option. Those questions, and the subsequent answers, dictate how the rest of the evening will unfold—fun or miserable.
I wish I’d asked her name; I’ll call her Angel. She remained faithful and true to her knowledge and information. Going to the extreme of taking our order, saying she’d go back in the kitchen to make sure my food was prepared properly and safely. And she did. Because she knew. Angel, as well as a family member, suffered with the same health issues. It often takes one to know one and care for another person. Even to a person they’ve never seen before or probably will never see again.
As I stepped over to the register to pay another staff member said, “You’re lucky to be talking with her. She knows and has experienced similar problems.”
“I believe this is a God-wink. I don’t know if you’ve heard that expression before, but my dear friend reminds me of this often,” I said.
“Oh yes, I’ve heard that and believe it too.” We winked at each other.
We, and thousands of other energetic folks, thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the evening—even when a rain storm moved in. What a glorious night spent singing and moving with golden oldies from a gifted composer and artist. Again, we were blessed because the rain only sprinkled until we arrived home and then a huge downpour unleashed. The ability to spend precious together time with my husband and daughter—a priceless adventure!
